Some interesting stories and facts about townships in the Cape include the following:

Langa is one of the thriving townships of Cape Town founded in the days of Apartheid, after thousands of residents from other areas were forcibly relocated. The area was named after Langalibalele, a famous rainmaker who was imprisoned on Robben Island in 1873 for rebelling against the Natal government. Nelson Mandela also lived in the Robben Island jail for a long time and worked as a prisoner in the quarry with the number 46665.

Khayelitsha - New Home

Khayelitsha is the fastest growing town on the Cape Peninsula and is located on the Cape Flats along the N2 motorway. The name is Xhosa for "New Home", which was created during its founding in the apartheid years.

It was founded in 1985 and many inhabitants of District Six and other areas were forcibly removed by the old apartheid government and relocated here without question. Today Khayelitsha has an estimated population of about 407,000.

The name '' Shebeen '' is a traditional business and brewery. Here you have the opportunity to try traditional beer. Later you can enjoy a delicious traditional dinner in Khayelitsha followed by local music and of course some dancing. The local pubs bring a different side to life - with South African beer, braai (BBQ) and a strong sense of community. Sheep heads which are a delicacy here are also grilled. Despite the troubled and tragic history of the settlements, the residential areas still have a strong sense of culture, with a vibrant community atmosphere and plenty of food, entertainment, enterprise and dance. Many municipal art projects can be found along the townships, with handicrafts such as embroidery, weaving, cement figures and original wire products. Almost every wire frame is its own work of art. Fabric remnants are used to make colourful dolls or other household items.
